A Practice Built Around the Courtroom

Most of Josh’s practice runs through Carteret County District Court, where he handles traffic tickets, speeding charges, DWI cases, and misdemeanors on a daily basis. He knows how these cases move, what prosecutors expect, and how to get outcomes that protect his clients’ records and licenses. For many people, that means saving real money: avoiding insurance rate hikes, license suspensions, or the cost of a conviction that follows them for years.
At the same time, he regularly takes on serious felony cases in Carteret County Superior Court, including drug charges, assault, weapons offenses, and more. The range matters. A lawyer who only shows up for traffic tickets will be out of his depth when stakes are higher. Josh has spent his entire career handling both ends of the spectrum, which makes him a stronger advocate at every level.
Over seventeen years, he has had cases dismissed, clients found not guilty at trial, and charges reduced to lesser offenses. In some situations he has been able to intervene early enough that charges were never filed at all. In traffic court, that kind of result can save a client hundreds of dollars and a hit to their driving record. In a serious felony case, it can mean the difference between freedom and years in prison.

From Morehead City to the Courtroom

Josh is a Carteret County native, born and raised in Morehead City. He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from NC State University in 2005 and went on to Campbell University School of Law in Raleigh, where he graduated in 2008 and was admitted to the North Carolina Bar that same year.
During law school he interned with the Harnett County District Attorney’s office, gaining firsthand exposure to how the state builds its cases. After graduation, he worked for a private criminal defense firm in Wake County, handling misdemeanor and felony cases in both district and superior court before coming home to open his own firm.
Seventeen years later, he’s still here, still in court, and still focused entirely on criminal and traffic defense.

Giving Back to the Community

Josh is an Eagle Scout and has stayed involved in Carteret County throughout his career. He has volunteered with the Beaufort Historical Association, served on the nominating council for the Boy Scouts of America, and was a board member of the Carteret County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.
